BIOGRAPHY

Guy Mangiamele has been photographing seriously since 1980, when he began work on his MS degree at The Institute of Design in Chicago.  Most of his study during that period was under the caring guidance of David Plowden, whose sensitivity and respect for subject—and absolute dedication to the photographic craft—made an indelible impression.

After graduation, Guy moved to California.  He immediately began work on a personal survey project called California Coast, while working as a freelance production assistant for a diverse group of brilliant photographers, including Marc Hispard from Elle magazine, and Joel Meyerowitz.

By the mid-1980s he had begun developing a niche in automotive editorial—which he was naturally drawn to because of both the logistical complications and the essential interplay of landscape and product.  After several years and a move to Düsseldorf and then Rome, he had created a steady clientele, photographing for eleven international publications.  Much of this work was done with an 8x10 view camera, and those results helped set his images apart.  Opportunities finally expanded to advertising campaigns for Rover and Suzuki in Italy, as well as some fashion featured in Vogue Italia.

Guy currently lives in Southern California with his wife and two daughters.  He is available for commission and assignment, and has many personal projects in various stages of execution.
