Cities can be like theaters. Some always mount lackluster shows that are easy to walk out on. Oceanside—where I live—isn’t like that.
There is an almost collisional exchange of visual and sensory energy. Light there seems to respond to different laws, and it has a prism-like effect on people and nature. Within half a mile of the water’s edge, I often feel it as an undeniable sense that something’s about to happen. I’m trying intently to listen.
